Shred Day This Friday

Member Appreciation Days are happening this week (Thurs Oct 17 and Fri Oct 18th).  We are once again hosting a member shred day on Friday, October 18 from 4pm – 6pm at our Richmond Branch at 1810 Williamsburg Pike, Richmond, IN.  

Document shredding is an important part of identity theft prevention and we provide this service twice per year (once in fall and once in the spring) to encourage the safe disposal of confidential information.

Shred your personal documentMembers are invited to bring documents to be shredded and recycled on site by Crowe Shredding.  Please consider shredding anything that has personal information such as your full name, address, etc.  This would  include old bills, credit card offers, banking statements and sales receipts.

37th Annual Meeting & 2013 Election Information

The 37th Annual Meeting of Health Care Professionals Federal Credit Union will be held at 6:30p.m. on Wednesday June 26, 2013 at Reid Hospital and Health Care Services, Lingle Hall. Hord’oeuvres will be served at 6:30 p.m. with the business meeting to begin at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the Annual Meeting is to receive and act upon the reports of the officers of the credit union, to announce the results of the election of directors, and to transact such other business as may properly come before this meeting.

Election Process – Section 1
In accordance with the credit union’s bylaws, the nominating committee has nominated one individual for each of the two (2) vacancies on the board of directors, to serve a three-year term. The following individuals have been contacted by the nominating committee and have agreed to serve if elected:

  • Steven A. Gardiner: Steve has served on the Board of Directors for eleven years and is willing to serve another term if elected. He is the father of three girls and will celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife Susan in September. He is an Associate with the architectural / engineering firm LWC, Incorporated, where he has worked as a designer / draftsman for the past twenty-eight years. He is involved with a number of volunteer efforts in the Richmond community and the State of Indiana and enjoys spending his spare time with family and friends.
  • Belinda A. Suggs: Belinda has served on the Board for fifteen years and is willing to serve another term if elected. She has been an employee of the Fayette Regional Health System for nineteen years. She began her tenure as the Accounts Payable Clerk for seven years and the last twelve years the Office Coordinator of Plant Operation and Engineering. She enjoys spending her spare time with her family.

The elections will not be conducted by ballot and there will be no nominations from the floor when there is only one nomination for each position to be filled. Nominations for vacancies may also be made by petition by a minimum of 20 members and a maximum of 500 members. Each nominee by petition must submit a statement of qualifications and biographical data to the attention of the nominating committee (see below) appointed by the board of directors. A signed certificate from the nominee(s) stating that they are agreeable to nomination and will serve if elected is also required. Please submit all nominations by the closing date of May 16, 2013 to the following: HCPFCU Nominating Committee, Attn: Todd Dooley, PO BOX 1445, Richmond, IN 47375.

Election Process – Section 2
All persons nominated by either the nominating committee or by petition must be placed before the members. When nominations are closed, tellers are appointed by the chair, ballots are distributed, the vote is taken and tallied by the tellers, and the results announced. All elections are determined by plurality of voice and will be by ballot except where there is only one nominee for each position to be filled.

Nominations cannot be made from the floor unless insufficient nominations have been made by the nominating committee or by petition to provide for one nominee for each position to be filled, or circumstances prevent the candidacy of one nominee for a position to be filled. Only those positions without a nominee are subject to nominations from the floor. In the event nominations from the floor are permitted and result in more than one nominee for a position to be filled, when nominations have been closed, tellers are appointed by the chair, ballots are distributed, the vote is taken and tallied by the tellers, and the results announced. When only one member is nominated for each position to be filled, the chair may take a voice vote or declare each nominee elected by general consent or acclamation at the annual meeting.

We will also have Crowe Shredding on site at our Richmond Branch on Friday April 26 from 3pm-5pm for live shredding. This a a free service for our members! Feel free to bring any documents (boxed or bagged) you would like securely shredded. Just pull up to the truck and we’ll be there to unload the items for you.

Sign up for the free Home Energy Assessment.  Do you want to save money on energy expenses this winter? The first step is figuring out how to conserve energy in your home! Cope Environmental Center is excited to announce a new collaboration with Energizing Indiana as a community partner for their Home Energy Assessment Program.

A trained Energy Advisor will evaluate your home for energy use and advise you on energy efficient measures you can take to save money and energy for FREE. They will even install several low-cost energy-saving measures on the spot!  You qualify for the program if:

  • You belong to a public utility provider (such as Richmond Power & Light, Duke Energy, IMPA, Indiana Michigan Power, IPL, NIPSCO, Vectren). Cooperative utilities are not eligible.
  • Your home has the utility in your name (Many renters can participate!)
  • Your home is over 10 years old
  • Your home has NOT undergone a utility-sponsored audit in the last 3 years

Is Your Home Ready for Winter?

Make sure your home is safe and energy efficient this winter by following these tips:

  • Have your furnace checked by an authorized repairman – small malfunctions can lead to big heating bills or potentially dangerous operation.
  • Be sure your attic and basement are adequately insulated. Wrap basement pipes and hot water heaters with special insulating blankets to prevent freezing and heat loss.
  • Be sure to have plenty of ice-melt, kitty litter or sand on hand for steps, porches and sidewalks.
  • If you rely on gas or electric heat, make sure you have an alternate heating source should your primary source go out for any reason.
  • Make sure your smoke detectors are in working order! There should be at least one on each level of your home.
  • Check your fire extinguishers to make sure they are fully charged.
  • Clean your rain gutters to allow a smooth flow of water from melting snow and ice.
  • Consider getting a carbon monoxide detector for sleeping areas unless you have electric heat sources.
  • Drain and remove garden hoses and turn off outside water lines.
